After living in Morocco and learning about the different cultures and
people, it makes sense to me to have the phrase "sub-Sahara" Africa. In
Morocco, many citizens do not consider themselves "African". Just Moroccan..
Perhaps the countries that lie along the Mederiterran Sea that are Muslim-
plus those countries below Morocco that are also Muslim sense the ties to
their Muslim religion and culture- and do not connect to the lower part of
Africa.
(For example, a few years ago in Marrakech, I was asking about AIDS, "oh no-
just in Africa there are a lot of cases")
There are many "blacks" in Morocco - either from black slaves and mixed in
with Berbers or Arabs or pure blooded tribes and they are all blended into
Moroccans.
I did not realize it was the USA who created "sub-Sahara" but since I
discovered that phrase I see it quite often in newspapers in different
countries.
There are "bad" people, or "extremists" or "war mongrels" in all countries
and religions. It is a shame to judge a whole nation of people by the
actions of a few.
The recent bombings in Casablanca has shamed so many Moroccans who are
gentle people and are friends of the USA although they did not want Bush to
go to war against Sadamm Hussein.
They just want to made a living to eat and so much depends on tourism in
Morocco. I just returned yesterday from Fes and the Sahara Desert in
Merzouga.
Of course, there are few tourists now because of the heat.
Everyone is getting over the shock of what happened. But the police control
is tight.

Interesting. It is funny how the USA likes to call something 'black' Africa
or 'sub-Saharan' Africa. It seems to be a USA protocol, but not so
elsewhere. Why is it the Africa has to be divided as such? Why is it the
so-called 'arabs' get special treatment while they try to destroy the USA?
